For our first read, we are diving into “This Thing Between Us” by Gus Moreno: A haunting and emotional horror novel about grief, technology, and the strange forces that linger after loss.

The novel dives into the emotional weight of loss, the dangers of technology, and social critiques of modern life. It blends psychological horror with cosmic horror and elements of Mexican American culture. It is 251 pages across four parts which can be broken out into four parts a week until we meet.

The first twenty minutes of the meeting is the settling-in part: grab a drink, introduce yourself to fellow members, then promptly at 6:50, we’ll begin the discussion for about an hour. Spine Chillers Society is a horror book club for readers who enjoy eerie stories, unsettling twists, and books that linger in the mind long after the final page.

Each month, we gather in person at a local cafe to discuss a selected horror novel over coffee and pastries. Our discussions are guided by a few prompts but kept relaxed and conversational—just readers sharing their thoughts, reactions, and favorite chilling moments.

Our selections explore many corners of horror: gothic classics, psychological horror, supernatural tales, and modern literary horror.

To make planning easy, books are announced three months at a time, giving everyone plenty of time to find a copy or place a hold at the library.
